Prof. Kathrin Zippel, Ph.D. ist seit 2022 Einstein-Professorin für Soziologie mit dem Schwerpunkt Gender Studies am Institut für Soziologie der Freien Universität Berlin und Mitglied des Exzellenzclusters SCRIPTS. Zuvor forschte und lehrte sie an der Northeastern University, USA. Kathrin Zippel studierte Mathematik und Politikwissenschaft an der Universität Hamburg und erwarb 1994 einen Master-Abschluss in Soziologie an der Ohio State University. Im Jahr 2000 wurde sie an der University of Wisconsin-Madison zum Doktor der Philosophie (Ph.D.) promoviert. Sie nahm eine Stelle als Postdoctoral Fellow am European Union Center of New York an der Columbia University in New York an. Neben der Northeastern University unterrichtete sie auch im Rahmen des Social Studies Programme an der Harvard University und im Consortium for Graduate Studies in Gender, Culture, Women and Sexuality am Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In Berlin war sie Gast am WZB Berlin Sozialwissenschaftliches Zentrum und im Exzellenzcluster Contestations of the Liberal Script (SCRIPTS)" an der Freien Universität Berlin. 2007 erhielt sie von der American Political Science Association den Victoria Schuck Award für das beste Buch über Frauen und Politik. Im Jahr 2019 wurde sie mit dem renommierten Alumni-Preis zur Förderung innovativer Vernetzungsinitiativen der Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung ausgezeichnet. Ihre Forschungsinteressen umfassen Gender, Arbeit und Organisationen, politische Soziologie, Wissenschaft und Technologie, vergleichende Soziologie zwischen den USA und Europa sowie Globalisierung.
