Jour fixe: Sara Eldayekh - Treading lightly into the heavy lives of lonely men: how psychosocial counselors and the male migrant divorcees of Berlin shape each other, and shape Berlin

20.11.2024 | 18:00 - 20:00

Migrant divorcees find themselves in a plot very different from the one they had envisioned for themselves and their families when they first embarked on their migration journey. Counselors aiming to support them in finding new ways of belonging have to shift gears themselves, too. In this presentation, Sara El Dayekh, a psychosocial counselor and PhD candidate in psychological anthropology, speaks about – and with – her colleague Emad Ahmadi, a psychologist at the International Psychosocial Organization (IPSO) and post-doc researcher at the University of Jena. They will share the work of the intricate tailoring he does to support Afghan male divorcees living in refugee camps in Berlin, both in groups and individually.
