The focus for this workshop will be on formal regional organizations that either focus almost exclusively on energy or that have at least some aspect of energy albeit not the primary issue area, such as the Southern African Development Community which has an energy component among many others. Over time, the research is extended to include informal regionalism and regionalization. The Oxford Handbook of Comparative Regionalism will be a starting point for scholars to think about theoretical and empirical research. Some might decide to use concepts and theories developed in the Handbook while others may critique these and use others. Both qualitative and quantitative methods will be considered.
