The Latin America Institute (LAI) of Freie Universität Berlin invites you to the workshop “Violence, Elites, and the Potential for Peace in Colombia and Latin America”.

Day 1 will focus on the topic “Peace, Conflict and Governance. The Persistence of Violence in Colombia - A Regional Perspective” (Paz, Conflicto, y Governancía. La Persistencia de Violencia en Colombia - una Perspectiva Regional) and will be held in Spanish.

The 2nd day, which will be held in English, will focus on the role of oligarchic forms of rule and their influence on governance processes in Latin America. The discussions will feed into a special issue of Third World Quarterly and analyze how elites and structural oligarchies shape political and social inequalities in the region.
