The research group Gender Studies is led by Prof. Kathrin Zippel, PhD and based in the Institute of Sociology. It carries out research on questions of gender and diversity in the fields of science, organizations and policy studies from an intersectional, transnational and comparative perspective. Research and teaching at the research group are focussed on current developments, debates, and challenges around gender equality and diversity as central promises of liberal modernity. Particular focus is put on contradictions, ambivalences, potentials, problematic aspects, as well as tensions and resistances arising from these developments and debates. At the center are questions such as: Why and how is change (im)possible? Why is progress often so slow? How can differences between different national and institutional contexts be explained?
The professorship was established with the support of the Einstein Foundation as part of the Einstein Strategic Professorships program.
