Berlin Sustainability Talk: Sustainable Development trough participative Governance?
Lecture and discussion with Prof. Dr. Jens Newig, Institute for Environmental and Sustainability Communication, Leuphana University Lüneburg
Participation of public and civil society in political decisions is in great demand. Expectations are high, since participation shall not only enhance the democratic quality of decision processes, but also the substance of policy and its practicability.
However, many authors have pointed to several risks and trade-offs that Robert Dahl has called the "democratic dilemma” between effectiveness and public participation.
With our guest, Prof. Dr. Jens Newig, we discuss the potential that civil society participation actually has for the effectiveness of Governance.
The Berlin Sustainability Talk is a monthly brown bag seminar at the Environmental Policy Research Centre (ffu). It presents a forum for discussion and exchange about ongoing research projects and recent trends in environmental policy research with scholars of other institutes, business representatives, politics, and public administrations as well as the interested public. The lecture of this brown bag seminar will be held in German.
