Language requirements
German skills on a high level are an essential precondition for studying at our department as most of the courses of our bachelor’s program as well as of our master’s programs are taught in German. English language skills must be proven by appropriate evidence. On the central pages of the Freie Universität Berlin you will find further information on the proof of English language skills for

Applicants with a foreign university degree must also provide proof of German language skills. You can find further information here.
Freie Universität Berlin's Language Center offers pre-semester and summer classes for advanced students. It also has an Center for Independent Language Learning, which is a useful resource. To prepare for the TestDaF or for the Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH) German classes can be taken at the Goethe-Institut, at private language schools in Germany, or in the prospective student's home country.
