ABSTRACT
The proposed doctoral research aims at exploring the editorial framing of Pakistani General Elections 2002, 2008 and 2013 by the popular Urdu press. The era of 2002 can be called as ‘democracy above the rule of law’, 2008 as ‘restoration of democracy’ and 2013 as ‘growth of democracy under the rule of law’. The elections under study cover the course of national history where powerful dictatorship weakens year by year and democracy rises in contrast. On the bases of framing theory and framing analysis, it intends to measure the framing of dictator and dictatorship in Pakistan, politics and political leaders in Pakistan and electoral issues. It will attempt to explore the editorial framing of these issues over time, context and media.
