The Freie Universität Berlin seeks to hire two research assistants in the project „Effects of EU soft law across the multilevel system (EfSoLaw)" (head: Prof. Dr. Miriam Hartlapp) founded by the DFG and ANR. The researcher is welcomed to become associated with the Berlin Graduate School of Global and Transregional Studies.
The project analyses effects of soft law in the EU multilevel system. It compares France and Germany in selected policy areas to understand if, when and why instruments that are nonbinding take effect. Further information on the project can be obtained from miriam.hartlapp@fu-berlin.de.
Job description:The research fellows will carry out independent empirical research in a topic covered by the project group and complete a PhD with reference to the project; they will contribute to publication of the results in German and English language and to organize scientific workshops. There are no teaching obligations attached to the position.
Requirements: Applicants should have a degree in political science with a specialization in European integration and/ or comparative politics.
Desirable: Focus on one or more of the following topics: implementation, legal systems and administration, and/ or EU policy-analysis in competition or anti-discrimination policy; a strong background in empirical methods; fluency in English; high ability to communicate and work in a team; structured, analytical and independent way of working; additional assets: knowledge of the European legal system, command of French, experience with comparative / European research designs and in applying for and working with third-party research grants are assets.
