The Institute for Media and Communication Studies is pleased to welcome Dr. Marko Bachl as a new assistant professor for Digital Research Methods from mid-May 2023. With this tenure-track professorship, Marko Bachl will head the new Digital Research Methods division and bring his expertise in computational social sciences to the institute's teaching and research programs.
Marko Bachl studied in Augsburg and Hanover. In 2014, he completed his doctorate on "Statistical models for real-time evaluations of political candidates in televised debates" at the University of Hohenheim. In addition to (digital) methods, his research focuses on political and health communication. He was chair of the DGPuK methods group and is currently an associate editor for Communication Methods and Measures. Since 2020, he has led the research project "Multilevel Flows of Political Communication on Facebook - A Computational Approach Using Individual Digital Traces," funded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation. He was a researcher at the University of Hohenheim from 2008 to 2023 and received the Hohenheim Teaching Award there in 2013. He also taught as a visiting professor at the Hanover University of Music, Drama, and Media.
