News from Apr 08, 2025

During summer term 2024, students of our bachelor program "Media and Communication Studies" have scrutinized the websites and the use of multi-lingual local news. This has been a project in cooperation with Amal, Berlin! and under supervision of Lukas Benedikt Hoffmann. As an important link between origin and arrival, Amal, Berlin! offers local and trans-regional news in German language, Dari/ Farsi, Arabic and Ukrainian language - and thus provides refugees and migrants with access to important information for living in Germany. One group of the students conducted a quantitative survey on the usage patterns and aspirations of nearly 160 Amal readers. A second group analyzed the content and the performance of the presence of Amal on social media platforms. By means of their results the students could draw a differentiated picture of the status quo. The final report has already been published and the final presentation will take place in the editorial office during summer term. The report (only available in German language so far) underlines the importance of media such as Amal, Berlin! for the integration of refugees and also emphasizes the committed approach of students of the above-mentioned study program to gain valuable insights into possible future changes of the offer.
