At the 10th ECREA annual conference “Communication and social (dis)order” in Ljubljana in September 2024, the network “Cosmopolitan Communication Studies” presented in its own panel important chapters of a book which will be published in spring 2025 under the title “Cosmopolitan Communication Studies. Toward Deep Internationalization”.
The first presentation provided an overview of the lack of cosmopolitan perspectives in communication studies and resulting problems in comprehensive and balanced knowledge production. The following presentations then shed light on different fields within communication and media studies ranging from media ethics to media systems research as well as diversity research in media and communication history. Each of the presentations showed for its particular field how a cosmopolitan perspective can enhance our understanding of both international and transcultural communication processes.
The presenting scholars included: Hanan Badr, Anna Litvinenko, Melanie Radue, Christine Horz-Ishak, Barbara Thomass, Stefanie Averbeck-Lietz and as chair: Carola Richter.
