Currently, an environmentally recyclable concept of a socio-ecological, sustainable growth and social model is missing, which would be a reference point for future economic and social prosperity and corresponding transformation processes. With this background, the main point of this study is the technical analysis and discussion of the following aspects:
1) theoretical and practical approaches of ecological and sustainable-oriented social and economic models – based on a national or macro-economic view.
2) conceptual and empirical reform efforts for the measurement of social welfare and economic prosperity.

The main questions are:
- To what extent is the normative concept of sustainability compatible with the characteristics of a capitalist market economy?
- What are the consequences of challenging environmental objectives (such as the protection of the performnance of eco-systems and absolute decoupling of economic growth and resource consumption) for the economy and society?

For this purpose, two workshops were conducted with experts and decision makers, using conversational based methods. Based on these analyses, selected concepts of new sustainable social development and the associated measure concepts were then considered in the context of current structures, actors and processes of change. Points of contact for specific policy options were identifitied. The results of all the phases of this work and workshops with experts and stakeholders have been incorporated into a final report.
